MALVERN author Wendy Grounds published her new book of reminiscences last Friday (May 8), the anniversary of the end of the war in Europe on May 8, 1945.
Wendy was 10 years old when the war started and living the the tiny village of Poolbrook, just outside Malvern.
Her book, Wartime Memories, recounts her life at school, rationing, food, friends, bombs, gas masks and the arrival of the evacuees in 1939.
Cora Weaver, the book's publisher, said: "The year 2009 commemorates the 70th anniversary of the declaration of war in 1939, and the start of an episode in our history that we must never forget, hopefully so we learn never to do the same again.
"It is written from a child's eye view, capturing vivid childhood memories of the time. With so many junior-age children studying this period at school this publication is a must."
Wartime Memories is available, priced £2, from local bookshops or from Cora Weaver, 4 Hall Green, Malvern WR14 3QX or cora@malvernspa.com.
