ARTS organisations and projects in the Malvern area are benefiting from grants worth thousands of pounds from Worcestershire County Council.
The council’s Arts Service has just handed out almost £100,000 to projects across Worcestershire in a bid to strengthen the role the arts can play in boosting the economy and enhancing the area’s cultural heritage.
The Autumn in Malvern Festival has received a grant of £1,200 and £1,500 has gone to the Upton Jazz Association.
Malvern Theatres has received funding for the second successive year, with an £8,000 award to fund educational work.
Local artist Caro Sweet becomes the first individual to be supported by the scheme, with an award of £2,500, in part to fund workshops for young people.
Stephen Wilson, Worcestershire County Council's arts officer, said: "We are very proud of the diversity that Worcestershire's cultural organisations provide. These grants are vital in ensuring this diversity is maintained and developed for the benefit of the county.
"The arts play a significant role in all our lives, helping to strengthen the local economy as well as enhancing our cultural heritage.”
Sophie McLellan, education officer at Malvern Theatres, said: “We are delighted that Worcester County Council is continuing to aid our education programme.
“This money is integral to the continuation and development of the work we do here, both with young people and the wider community. Every person should have access to the Theatre and a further understanding of the what we do here.
“The arts have an incredible impact on the community, encouraging interaction between different generations and areas, promoting high quality artistic activities and providing opportunities for people to try something new.”
