A TEENAGER who stole his grandmother’s car and drove it despite not having a full driving licence has been ordered to carry out unpaid work.
Steven Scarratt took the keys to his gran’s Vauxhall Corsa and drove the car to Upton-upon-Severn then left it in a carpark overnight.
It was when he was driving back the next day on Tuesday, April 21, he was stopped by a police officer who discovered Scarratt was a provisional licence holder and had no insurance.
The 18-year-old pleaded guilty to taking a vehicle without the owners consent, driving without insurance and driving otherwise in accordance with his licence.
Representing himself, the teenager from Martin Close, Malvern, said: “I am sorry for doing it and I should not have done it.
“I have apologised to my grandmother and she accepts that.”
The unemployed teen was sentenced to 60 hours unpaid work for taking the car.
For having no insurance he was fined £100 and six points put on his licence. Scarratt was also ordered to pay £60 costs and a £15 victim surcharge.
