REQUESTS for Malvern Hills tourism guides have gone through the roof since the area featured on an episode of the BBC show Countryfile on Sunday evening.
Staff at the Tourism Information Centre have also been busy fielding dozens of requests over the phone after the show sparked a sudden interest in visiting the region.
Anne Rich, who works at the Church Street centre, said: “It’s been fantastic. The emails started coming in a few minutes after the programme finished. We’ve sent out between 150 and 200 guides this week and normally it would only be 10 or so a day.”
The show featured presenters Julia Bradbury and Matt Baker exploring the hills, hearing about Sir Edward Elgar and tasting Malvern Spring Water.
Mal Salisbury, economic development officer at Malvern Hills District Council, is delighted that there has been so much interest: “The Malvern Hills District really is a fantastic place to visit as there is so much to do and see, and so much history surrounding the area.
“Countryfile has definitely helped raise awareness of all the things we have to offer and we look forward to welcoming lots of visitors to the area in the near future.”
