THE Malvern Hills have been named as one of Britain’s most stunning viewpoints in a new book produced by walking charity The Ramblers.

The new title “Walk Britain’s Great Views” describes the hills as “a quintessentially English view, evoking a mood of quiet, affirmatory contemplation - a feeling that all is as it should be in the world”.

A walk along the Malverns is one of 50 routes featured in the book, each accompanied by photographs, maps and expert commentary.

The Ramblers’ chief executive Tom Franklin said: "Our members are passionate about walking so who better to recommend the best places in Britain to see a great view on a walk.

“A great view is something that stays with you for the rest of your life, especially if you've walked for it.”

Walkers from far and wide are expected to descend on the area to sample its views for themselves when the Malvern Walking Festival 2009 takes place from May 30 - June 7, offering a host of guided walks for all tastes and abilities.

As this year will be the 75th anniversary Edward Elgar's death, people are being invicted to walk the paths that Elgar walked and understand why he became so inspired.

All of the walks will be led by enthusiastic leaders who will give you a wealth of information throughout.
