PUPILS from Colwall Primary School enjoyed a maths lesson like no other as they visited a professional football club for a morning of number-based activities.
The youngsters travelled to Edgar Street, home of Hereford United Football Club, where they were given the opportunity to apply their mathematical skills to real-life contexts, such as working out the cost of season tickets and finding the area of the centre circle on the pitch itself.
The pupils got to meet the players and tour the stadium, and even enjoyed lunch on the Meadow End Terrace while watching the first team players train on the pitch.
The event was organised through the Football in the Community Scheme.
Deputy headteacher Lee Card said: “This is what our creative and meaningful curriculum is all about at Colwall.
“The children here have realised just how much of their mathematics work can be applied to everyday decisions in life – like whether they can afford to take the whole family to a game or not!
“Many of the children have mentioned going to watch their local team now and are more enthusiastic about playing sport as a result. Hereford United were brilliant and the players acted as real professional role-models for the children”.
