THE new minor injuries unit at Malvern Community Hospital has reached a major milestone in double-quick time, having treated its 1,000th patient.
Clarence Spencer, age 97, became the 1,000th patient to be treated at the new MIU since it opened at the beginning of February when she received medical attention for a scald to her hand.
Mrs Spencer said she was very pleased to be able to receive treatment locally rather than having to travel to the Accident and Emergency department at Worcestershire Royal Hospital.
Since the unit opened it has treated patients with a wide variety of injuries, including cuts, grazes, fractured bones, burns, wounds, sprains and strains and minor head injuries.
MIU manager Lee Manning said: “This is a special milestone for our unit and we hope to continue with our first rate service which really enhances local healthcare provision.”
Malvern Community Hospital matron Lin Ingles added: “To have treated our 1,000th patient after only three months shows how valuable this service is to the community.”
The MIU is located on the site of Malvern Community Hospital’s former casualty department in Lansdowne Crescent. It is open from 9am to 9pm seven-days-a-week, with X-ray facilities from 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday.
