COUNTY councillors representing Malvern have decided to use some of their share of a special health fund to pay for a part-time Life Coach at Malvern Hills College.

Cllrs Penelope Morgan, Di Rayner, Clive Smith and Jeremy Webb are pooling their shares of Worcestershire PCT’s community leadership for health fund to provide the coach, who will offer a confidential support to students.

Their combined funding of £8,398 will pay for the post for a full year.

The coach will offer pastoral support, empowering them to take control of their lives in areas such as health and fitness, careers and self confidence.

Cllr Morgan said: “We are delighted that the students at Malvern Hills College will benefit from the counselling facilities that a Life Coach will be able to provide, particularly in these very difficult times for students trying to make their way in life.

“This is the first project in the scheme but there will be more that will benefit all age groups of the Malvern community to improve quality of life and well-being.”

Powick councillor Tom Wells has directed his share of the funding at three projects for children and young people.

A week-long healthy-living project at St Mary’s Primary School will receive £895, while Welland Primary School will receive £1,748 to continue its Breakfast Club provision for children in Reception class through to Year Six.

The Welland Teddy Bears toddlers group will receive £214 to provide healthy snacks and fun physical activities for its young members.

Cllr Wells said: “The group and two schools are excellent and I am sure that the funding will help to encourage healthy lifestyles for all the children.”
