THE Friends of Community Action celebrated three landmarks during their recent Annual General Meeting.

As well as reaching its first birthday, the group can now boast more than 100 members and has just broken through the £9,000 barrier for the total funds it has raised.

At the AGM new friends chairman John Morgan presented his predecessor Jen Boyer with an orchid in recognition of her hard work.

“Without Jen’s drive and enthusiasm the Friends would not have got off the ground,” he said.

He also thanked all members for their support and urged them to even greater efforts in the coming year. Mr Morgan hopes to raise the profile of the Friends of Community Action with a series of major social events over the coming months.

“Few realise the work that Community Action does,” he said. “With the hospital car service, the Shoparound bus service and the transportation of elderly and disabled people in its two minibuses and specially fitted van it is providing a lifeline for many who would otherwise be housebound.

“The greatest priority for the Friends at the moment is to raise money so that Community Action can upgrade their minibuses to meet the ever-growing need.”
