MALVERN Wells Players’ latest production, Our War, is a new play by local playwright Francis Charters.
Francis, who has co-directed many of the players’ youth productions, was keenly aware that most of the young people he worked with were blissfully unaware of their country’s involvement in war over the years.
“As the play developed the young cast were fantastic with their ideas and enthusiasm, questioning facts portrayed in the play and developing the characters involved.” he said.
War is the theme of the play and through an imaginative variety of drama, poetry and song, it explores how everyone is affected.
“I was keen to present the theme in a way that does not make any judgements “, said Mr Charters. “The aim is to get both audience and performers to think about the issues portrayed. However, saying ‘it has nothing to do with me’ is not an option. Whichever side people come down on it is Our War”.
Our War is running on Thursday-Saturday, May 7-9, at Malvern Wells Village Hall. Tickets are available from Daniels Garage and Malvern Wells Post Office.
