A DATE has been set for opponents of mass housing plans from across the Malvern Hills district to unite and make their feelings known.
Lib Dem parliamentary candidate Richard Burt and district councillor Tom Wells have called a meeting at The Bank House in Bransford to discuss the plans for huge housing expansion laid out in the South Worcestershire Joint Core Strategy (SWJCS).
They hope the meeting will allow residents from all around the district to present a united front against the proposals.
“Residents from across the district are very angry about the imposition of these housing numbers and feel they have had very little real say in deciding on the locations,” said Mr Burt. “If communities stand together on this we will be a far more powerful voice to lobby councillors, ministers and officials before any final decisions are made.
“I hope as many as possible will come to the meeting to voice their opposition and help promote an alternative vision for housing development in South Worcestershire that local people can support.”
The meeting will take place in the Westminster Suite at The Bank House at 7.30pm on Tuesday (May 5).
The SWJCS is being jointly implemented by Malvern Hills District, Wychavon and Worcester City Councils to meet Government targets for housing growth by 2026. At least 1,600 new homes are proposed for the Malvern area.
