A BROTHER and sister from Malvern are both taking part in the Acorns Triple Run for the fourth year running.
Jeremy and Briony Grout take part in the 5km Spring Fun Run but whereas budding runner Jeremy goes as fast as he can, Briony prefers to treat it like a fun run and enjoy the route with dad Andrew.
Last year Jeremy, aged nine, finished within 20 minutes, in tenth 10th place overall. “This year I intend to beat my time,” he said, “and see if I can move further up the places. To finish in the top five would be awesome.”
Briony, aged 11, said: “The fun run is a lovely route and I enjoy jogging it with my dad. This year we’ll both be wearing pink wigs to make it even more fun. It’s a really nice family race and me and my dad really enjoy it.”
Malvern Splash is offering special training sessions for people who want to take part in the Triple Run, but who may be cautious about hitting the course.
The twice-weekly sessions will help new runners to prepare by giving important tips on health and flexibility, running styles and basic training methods.
Mark Cawthorne, fitness instructor, said: “These are starter sessions and will be packed with advice on how to run properly and safely, and how to use running to improve your overall health. Classes will involve learning about stretching techniques and becoming more flexible, using running equipment, running safely on the roads, the importance of keeping hydrated, even down to tips on the best running accessories to use.”
The session, which started this week, will run every Tuesday and Thursday until the event in June. For information, call 01684 893423.
