A 17-year-old up-and-coming mountain biker from Malvern has caught eyes after winning a national title in two different disciplines.

Hattie Harnden secured the titles in both downhill and enduro mountain biking, marking her as one of the most multitalented athletes in the sport.

There's a difference in skills required between the two disciplines.

While both involve racing on off-road terrain, downhill riding is focused on speed and precision.

Racers are challenged by steep courses laden with obstacles and a ticking clock with the goal of reaching the finish as fast as possible in a few intense minutes of riding.

Enduro races, though, test endurance and technical ability over long courses that can take hours to complete.

They're multi-stage events, proving more complex.

The drive and skill to switch between these two types of races showcases Harnden's impressiveness adaptability, which sets her apart from her competitors.

After winning the titles, Harnden said: "It's amazing to be crowned national champion in two mountain bike disciplines.

"I managed to hold on to the downhill sleeve for another year and now I've claimed the enduro one too so I'm pretty chuffed."

This double win cements her reputation as one of the best female riders in the sport.

Now she's pursing the Overall EDR World Series title.

She is set to compete in the final EDR World Cup race in Loudenvielle on Friday (September 6), where she is gunning for the Overall EDR World Series Title.

Winning is not new to Harnden.

She has already won a whopping 17 national titles in Cyclo-Cross, Enduro, Cross Country, and Downhill.

She is also one of the youngest ever Elite EWS Winners, finishing in fourth overall.
