Malvern mountain biker Evie Richards is gearing for her second Olympic games.

Richards will not have to wait long to get pedaling, as she is set to race on Sunday (July 28) at the fast, technical course in Elancourt, Paris.

Richards’ journey to the Olympics began on holidays to Brecon and Center Parcs, before building on her skills on her favourite training ground, the Malvern Hills.

Despite coming close to national hockey selection in her teenage years, Richards swapped the hockey stick for a mountain bike.

Following her debut at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, she overcame all the medalists at the games to claim victory at the World Championships, in Val Di Sole, Italy, later that year, as she became the first elite British World Mountain Bike Champion.

Richards is a product of Malvern Cycle Sport, where she was coached by mountain biking legends Tracey Moseley and Liam Killeen.

Hattie Harnden, best known for winning a World Cup Enduro series race, is another renowned previous pupil of the club.

Sporting prowess runs in the family.

Molly, Evie's sister, is a sports coach; their mother Emma was a county-standard hurdler and her youngest sister Ruby recently competed in the winter ski games in Meribel, France.

Richards said: "I am so excited and proud to represent GBR and the Midlands at Paris.

"I will be riding hard and gunning for a medal, I do accept that after my concussion injury in Brazil I am 6 weeks behind everyone, but this will not stop me giving everything.

"I will be racing for everyone who cannot make it to Paris, there are so many people who I would like to say thank you for helping me on my Olympic journey."

Richards' race will be available to view on either BBC or BBC iPlayer.
