THE triathlon season has only just begun, but Malvern Triathlon Club have already been out in force.
Two local events at the weekend saw several members competing on the Saturday and Sunday.
First off, five Malvern athletes entered the Lakeside Launcher Duathlon at the University of Worcester Lakeside Campus. In the event, which featured a 4.5km run, 24km cycle leg and a 2.5km run, first places in age category went to Malvern’s Jayne Ackroyd, Dave Dutton and Dave Potter.
Next, eleven Malvern members swam and ran in the Tewkesbury Aquathlon, a 400-metre pool swim followed by a 5km run. Malvern’s Stew Powell finished first in age category, and newer members Kayleigh-Moon Holmwood, Michael Dymond and Kerrie Mezsaros raced well in their first multisport event.
Out of season, it was a busy summer for Malvern Triathlon Club at home and abroad.
Amongst the many events, five athletes competed in the Black Country Sprint Triathlon in Wombourne with Colin Davies finishing second in age category. Dick Watling completed the Vichy 70.3 in France.
Elsewhere, full Ironman triathlons were done by Geoff Wild in Copenhagen and Bleddyn Davies in Tenby. Helen Woodman, who won the World Cross Duathlon Championship in May, came third in the Riva del Garde Triathlon in Italy.
