STRIKER Jack Watts has signed for Malvern Town on a permanent basis ahead of the 2023/24 Hellenic League Premier season.
Watts made a couple of appearances for The Hillsiders at the end of the promotion-winning campaign, including the promotion-relegation play-off win over Highworth Town.
And now, with Malvern moving into Step 4 for the first time since 2009, Watts has made the move official from nearby Stourport Swifts.
"Whilst I am gutted to leave behind so many good people at Stourport, this is an exciting opportunity for me," said Watts.
"Malvern Town are a club on the up and it’s an exciting time for me to join with Southern League football on the horizon.
"Step 4 is a great standard; I’ve enjoyed my times playing in it and I’ve missed it when playing elsewhere.
"Malvern are doing things the right way and I’m really looking forward to the challenge ahead.
"I know from experience how unbelievable the supporters are here. To see the numbers at the play-off game and the noisy backing that they gave to the team throughout the game, it really was great to see.
"I was able to take it all in and the big thing that struck me was the connection between the players and fans, this will be so important during the season ahead and I am delighted to be part of it."
Someone who knows Watts very well is Town co-manager Stephen Cleal, who managed the forward at Bishops Cleeve amongst other clubs, and is confident the striker will continue to contribute in the goal-scoring charts.
"I’ve known Wattsy and his family all of his life," added Cleal.
"He’s played over 200 games for me and has always scored goals at every level.
"He fits in well with this group and I am delighted that he has come on board. I can’t wait to work with him again."
