A TEENAGE girl was followed by a male driver and grabbed in an attempted abduction.

Police have issued a description of the motorist who tried to urge the girl into his small, white, four-door car. The victim has not been named.

The man had grabbed the teenager's arm as he drove alongside her.

"The man - who remained in his vehicle - released her arm after only two to three seconds when she said she was calling the police," said police spokesman Richard Bull.

The victim was then able to walk home, unharmed but upset. The incident occurred near the Texaco garage in Worcester Road between 11.10pm and 11.50pm on Tuesday.

The garage was closed at the time and the news has shocked people in Malvern Link.

Sam McBride, assistant manager at the garage, said: "This is a very quiet area and and you don't expect something like this to happen on your doorstep. I thought I had heard wrong when I was told."

The man police are looking for is of Asian origin and had a large spot on his face. He had parked his car on the forecourt of the garage for some minutes with loud music coming from it.

As soon as the victim passed by, the music stopped and he followed her in the vehicle before drawing alongside and grabbing her arm.

"It is highly likely that anyone walking or driving by would have heard the extremely loud music, seen the man sitting in the car or noticed his highly unusual subsequent behaviour in attempting to get the girl into the car as he drove alongside her," added Mr Bull.

"Although to some it could have looked as though a couple were arguing and the driver was trying to persuade his female partner to get back into his vehicle, this was definitely not the case."
