IF you think the weather around Malvern in the last few weeks has been a lot wetter, colder and duller than normal, you're not wrong.

The equipment weather recorder Frank Hill maintains at his Charles Way home shows the month has been twice as wet as normal, with temperatures even plunging below zero one night.

Mr Hill said much of the rain fell in the second week of the month and was followed by a few warmer and sunnier days. But this spell ended on Sunday, when a depression moving along the English Channel brought further heavy rain, low temperatures and freshening north-easterly winds.

"The maximum temperature of 9.7C was the lowest in late May since 1984," said Mr Hill. "The air remained rather cold for three days, leading to a near air frost early on Wednesday, May 30, and an unusually low gross minimum for late May of -3.8C (25F) in Malvern Link."
