MALVERN'S QinetiQ has launched a new high-tech GPS device that can be used to track vehicles and cargo anywhere in the world and works even in locations where traditional GPS fails.
The tracking device, the Ocellus S100, uses Qinetiq's award-winning high sensitivity GPS technology, already used by UK police forces to track personnel.
It can work fitted in a glove box, under seats, in the boot, even fitted to the bottom of a vehicle, where it can use GPS signals reflected from the road surface.
It can be used to track cargo by being placed on pallets, in boxes and in trucks, offering a complete web-based tracking service.
QinetiQ's technology will used by other companies and tracking services using the Ocellus S100 are being developed for use in the UK, the Middle East, Europe and North America.
Jim Panter, managing director of QinetiQ's GPS-enabled telematics business, said: "This high performance product extends the range of environments where the surveillance and tracking benefits of GPS can be delivered."
