THE head of Malvern College, David Dowdles, has left the school suddenly after only seven months in the job.
Mr Dowdles resigned his post last Friday, May 25, for personal reasons, according to a statement issued by the school this week.
Parents and pupils were told the news on Saturday, during an event to mark the start of half term.
The announcement was made by Lord Maclaurin, chairman of the school council, who asked parents and pupils "to respect David's wishes for no elaboration", according to the statement.
"Lord Maclaurin thanked David Dowdles for all his efforts and great contribution in the time he had been with the college and wished him well in the future," said the statement.
He also announced that Dr Sarah Welch, deputy head since September 2004, had already taken over the role of acting head, and he said: "It is very much business as usual at Malvern College."
Before coming to Malvern he had been head of Warminster School in Wiltshire for eight years. He took over the post from Hugh Carson, who retired last summer.
