MEMORIES of World War II were stirred in Malvern on Sunday when a Lancaster bomber overflew the town at about 10.30am.

The iconic aircraft flew low over the town, drawing people outside with the distinctive roar of its four Merlin engines.

The aircraft, which belongs to the RAF's Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, is one of only two Lancasters still in airworthy condition.

The four-engined aircraft was the mainstay of RAF Bomber Command during the war, and was used in missions such as the famous Dambusters raid in 1943.

A spokesman for the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight said the aircraft was flying from Bournemouth to Lichfield on Sunday.
