LIB Dems in the Malvern Hills will have to reflect and reconsider in the wake of last week's Tory landslide, says the party's parliamentary candidate Richard Burt.

He was speaking in the wake of the district council election, which saw the number of Lib Dem councillors reduced to just five, while the Conservatives won 29 seats.

"To be honest, I think this was as much of a surprise to the Conservatives as it was to us," said Mr Burt.

"There was an undercurrent that we didn't pick up and that we need to understand.

"We will need to listen more carefully in future, to talk to people and ask them what they want. The people have spoken and we need to think very carefully."

Tom Wells, who lead the party in the last election campaign in 2003, declined to comment.
