A DAY of sport is to be held at Manor Park this month to celebrate its centenary year.
The club will invite members and people associated with it to try their hands at outdoor bowling, tennis, squash, and archery. Displays will also be put on by expert players, and for those who have built up an appetite, there will be a pig roast.
According to the Malvern Gazette of January 11, 1907, "the meadow formerly known as the Hollow Meadow, will become known as the Manor Park."
The ground was leased from Sir Henry and Lady Grey and was formally opened on May 20, 1907. The celebrations will kick-off on the same day (a Sunday) a century later.
Following the death of Sir Henry, Lady Grey made a gift of the land in trust to Manor Park in 1921. The trust deed states that it is to be used to provide sport and leisure facilities for the people of Malvern.
