BABY Latte, Malvern's breastfeeding support group, is celebrating Breast-feeding Awareness Week (May 14-20) with some special treats for mums.

The group, which meets for coffee on Thursday mornings at the Lyttelton Well, Malvern, will be offering cakes and biscuits, free shiatsu shoulder massages and a chance to chat with a homeopath on Thursday, May 17.

There will also be the usual support from breast feeding counsellor Rachel O'Neill and advice from health visitor Julia Greer.

Frances Thurlow, co-ordinator of Baby Latte, said the group had helped many mums to overcome initial breastfeeding difficulties and enjoy feeding their babies. In Britain, nine out of 10 mothers who stopped breastfeeding after six weeks, wished they could have fed longer, she said.

"Sometimes it comes as a surprise to new mums that breastfeeding is a skill that can take time and patience to master. During the early weeks, access to good information and support is essential for mums who want to breastfeed."

Mums and their babies are welcome at Baby Latte from 11.15am to 12.45pm in the Guesten Room at the Lyttelton Well, Church Street, any Thursday during term time.
