A HELICOPTER ride and a canal holiday are among the latest star lots in the auction of gifts and promises in aid of St James's Church, West Malvern, organ refurbishment fund, being held on Friday, May 11.

Some 110 lots are now assembled and ready to go under the auctioneer's hammer, beginning at 7.30pm in West Malvern Village Hall. Bidders are advised to make sure they are there in good time to ensure a seat as space is strictly limited. Entry is free, as are the refreshments, but the organisers hope for a successful night of fundraising through vigorous bidding.

Fundraising continues in West Malvern next Friday (May 18) in the less frenetic atmosphere of St James's Church at 7.30pm, when John Widerspin gives what will probably be the last recital on the organ before it is taken apart for its well-earned refurbishment.

John is organist to the Worcester Cathedral Voluntary Choir and a regular recitalist around the country. His exciting programme includes works by Bach, Buxtehude and Reinberger, Franck, Gigout and Guilmant, and will end with Elgar's magnificent Imperial March and Liszt's Fantasia and Fugue on B. A. C. H. Tickets are £5 at the door, including a glass of wine afterwards.
