PUPILS at St Joseph's RC Primary School, Newtown Road, put on their running shoes this week to help raise money for new classrooms, now being built.

The children have been playing a big part in the building project, and Wednesday's fun run, on the playing field at nearby Dyson Perrins High School is the latest in a series of events to raise ten per cent of the £300,000 total costs.

Head Ann Marie Wallbank said: "Physical activity is an important part of our curriculum, so it seemed like a good idea to combine improving the school with improving the fitness of our pupils.

"Even the very youngest children in our reception class managed at least one lap of the full-size running track and others managed two laps with a very significant proportion completing four laps. Everyone was very determined and even the rain couldn't dampen their enthusiasm.

"We are very grateful to Mr David Griffin and his staff for the use of Dyson Perrins running track. The high school is currently bidding for specialist sports status and St Joseph's is supporting the bid."
