THE meeting held on September 10 was opened by President, Cath Blackwell who welcomed members.
Business matters were discussed with future events and outings highlighted.
Following refreshments Bill Denny was introduced to give members the history of Little Malvern Priory and Court with slides giving a true flavour of what you would see on a visit.
The 12th Century Benedictine Priory with its tower which dominates the landscape, is open to visitors.
Little Malvern Court and Gardens has been the home of the Berington family since the 1530s and was restored in the 1960s.
Inside, family portraits, European paintings and furniture can be viewed, together with a collection of needlework and religious vestments from the 18th and 19th Centuries.
Outside there are ten acres to explore with magnificent views together with a vast number of plants and trees to admire. Mary Roberts thanked Mr Denny for a most interesting and enjoyable talk on a piece of history on members’ doorstep which should be visited by those who have not already been and for those who have, just to enjoy a walk in the grounds.
The next meeting of Colwall WI will be held in the Village Hall on Monday, October 8 at 7 pm for Members and 7.30pm for guests in time for a coffee/tea and a chat before Remembering the Swinging 60’s with Ray Sturdy.
If you have any 60’s memorabilia please bring it along, or wear it! This should be a fun evening down memory lane so please come along and join us, try us out and hopefully you will want to come again.
