WE were astounded by the sheer nerve of Gleesons in publishing their vision for the land at Newland before the consultation period has even ended.
We were also very disappointed to read Councillor Eric Jones’ comments that the level of detail in the documents revealed that people had been working on it for some time and treating it as a done deal.
Consultation? What of it?
We sincerely hope that our elected councillors, in considering the SWDP consultation document will consider the views of the people they claim to represent.
Previous letters published in this paper have clearly shown the strength of feeling against this development, as have the 1,400 signatures to the petition not to undertake significant development, delivered to Malvern Hills District Council as part of the consultation process.
We have also noted a significant number of negative comments in the consultation paper itself specific to the land at Newland.
Should we be reassured by Coun David Hughes’ remarks that they will assess all responses and report to councillors before any decisions are made? Only time will tell.
The future of Malvern is in the hands of our elected councillors to do the right thing. We only hope they do so by prioritising the need to treat Malvern as special; maintaining beautiful farmland enjoyed by many.
