THE flood gate at the bottom of New Street in Upton-upon- Severn was opened on Wednesday afternoon after repair work was carried out on the road.
Environment Agency spokesman Serena Balsdon said: “The recent floods have caused some damage to the road that leads to the New Street flood gate. On Monday the floodwater had receded enough over the weekend for our teams to assess the damage and plan the repairs.
“There has also been some damage to the flood gate. We are hoping to repair this next week without closing the road.
Once the repairs have been done we do not expect this to be a recurring problem.”
Elsewhere, the Environment Agency had to remove tons of debris, mostly tree trunks and branches, which had become stuck under the Powick bridge over the river Teme.
