WELLAND people will be able to share their views on a new planning application to build 11 houses near the village.

An outline application has been sent in to Malvern Hills District Council to build the houses on land off Hook Bank. The application has been submitted by Irfona Campbell of Marlbank Road.

The site of the proposed development is the former Meadow Farm Park, situated between the Inn at Welland and the residential caravan park at the top of Hook Bank.

It calls for six houses to be sold on the open market and five affordable homes.

Little Malvern and Welland Parish Council has arranged a public meeting this Monday in the village hall at 7pm to discuss the plan. It will then come before the parish council itself on Monday, October 15.

The new application follows the controversial plan to build 50 houses on a farm off Drake Street, only a few minutes away from Hook Bank.

Last week, the Gazette reported how the parish council voted unanimously to oppose that scheme.

Alan Madsen, of Welland Residents’ Action Group, said: “We haven’t taken direction on this from our members yet, but I would imagine many of them will be concerned that it has the potential to increase flooding problems in Drake Street, and that it is too far from the centre of the village and its facilities.”
