WORK on a state-of-theart £20 million retirement village in Malvern Link will get underway today.

The 101-apartment complex is being created by Festival Housing on the site of Alexandra Gardens, off Worcester Road.

Clarence Park Village, aimed at the over-55s will be a mix of accommodation for sale, shared ownership and rent.

Councillor Clive Smith, who represents Malvern Link on Malvern Hills District Council, said: “This marks another stage in bringing us a very well worthwhile development which will be an asset to the area as a whole.”

The complex will feature a wide range of leisure facilities and amenities including a restaurant, library, gym and wellness centre.

There will also be a care and support service. This will include help with everyday tasks such as washing, dressing and household chores.

The development follows Festival Housing’s success with the similar Rose Garden in Hereford, which had 1,500 applications for 91 apartments when it opened in 2008.

Richard Grounds, Festival’s commercial director, said: “When completed, Clarence Park Village will allow residents to enjoy a wonderful lifestyle in a tailor-made community with superb social activities and leisure events.”

Building work is set for completion in early 2014.

The project has already received a major funding boost, with a £3 million grant from the Homes and Communities Agency.

There is to be a launch day for prospective residents at the Abbey Hotel on Tuesday, October 23.
