100 YEARS AGO.
It is with great regret that we record the death of the Venerable William Walters, late archdeacon of Worcester and Vicar of Malvern Wells, which took place suddenly on Sunday morning, at his residence, Eastfield, Malvern Wells. The Archdeacon had only resigned the living of Malvern Wells in August.

50 YEARS AGO.
A group of people who do not believe in paying high prices for houses are waiting for the go-ahead from Malvern Council to build their own homes. It is the Malvern Self-Build Association, formed last March, who hope to build eight houses for under £2,000 apiece. They have asked the council to sell them eight plots of land.

A bookshop combined with a coffee lounge is an unusual idea now being enjoyed by Malvern bookworms. It is the brainchild of John Bridcutt, who opened Beacon Books on Worcester Road last May in Worcester Road as a family business run by himself and assisted by his wife Ann and daughter Vicki..
