THE Endellion String Quartet return to Malvern this month for the start of Malvern Concert Club’s 110th season.
Their programme combines fine pieces from the classic period including Haydn’s Lark Quartet and Beethoven’s Rasumovsky Op.59 No.2 , as well as the 2nd Quartet of Bartok, whose quartets are recognised as among the finest examples of the 20th century chamber music repertoire. The Endellion Quartet were also chosen to play an important role in the feature film by Phil Grabsky In Search of Haydn and played live at the film’s premiere at the Barbican in January this year.
The remainder of its 110th season includes performances by The Nash Ensemble in October and The Fibonacci Sequence in November, with a varied programme featuring Mozart’s Piano and Wind Quintet and Poulenc’s Sextet. Paul Lewis returns in January with an all-Schubert programme, as part of his two year project to perform all Schubert’s mature piano music at major venues world-wide.
The Doric Quartet play in Malvern in March and in their final concert in May 2013, the concert club will present a new work commissioned by the club with the Kay Trust.
Ian Venables’s The Song of the Severn celebrates Worcestershire poets in a song cycle for baritone, piano and string quartet, performed by Roderick Williams, Tom Poster and the Carducci Quartet on May 2.
The Endellion String Quartet perform at Malvern Theatres on Thursday, September 20 at 7.30pm. Tickets are available from the box office. For information visit Malvern-concert-club.co.uk.
