ACTIVITIES continue as usual in the village as summer slowly draws to a close.
Residents are pleased to note that many of the hedges and fields which have grown so enthusiastically this summer have been trimmed and mown.
Allan Wood was delighted to see a female pheasant and her brood of no fewer than eight chicks in his garden on The Common.
Shiela Neale’s submission of a poem written by her mother in approximately 1957 shows some of the changes that have taken place in the village since then:
Ten years ago to this village I came, Wellington Heath – what a name!
One pub, one school, the village pump, buses twice a week – what a dump!
A quieter place is hard to find, good for heart, soul and mind Go to church, visit the shop, WI completes the lot!
At the present time, the Farmers Arms is closed (temporarily, it is hoped); there is no village pump in operation; the 675 bus comes through the village every day at regular intervals; and although there is a church, there is no longer a village shop.
The Book Club would like to welcome two extra members to join them on the second Tuesday of every month at 7.30pm. If you would like to join, contact Anne Abbotts at 01531 632439.
