UPTON’S mayor Andrea Morgan will remain in office for a third consecutive year.
She was re-elected unanimously and unopposed when Upton Town Council met on Tuesday evening.
Coun Morgan is able to serve for a third successive year after a clause limiting any stint as mayor to a maximum of two years was removed from the town’s standing orders at an extraordinary general meeting called last week.
“I feel very honoured and privileged and I only hope that I can do justice to the post and not let the town down in any way,” said Coun Morgan following her re-election.
Upton’s new deputy mayor is Coun Paul Bennett, who defeated the previous holder of the role Simon Yates by eight votes to six in a close-run vote.
Coun Bennett said: “Thank you very much for giving me this opportunity to do some work for the town.”
