A FORMER Dyson Perrins pupil, now an Army fitness instructor, was set to be back in Malvern on Saturday to run up the Worcesteshire Beacon.
Jon Barnett, who joined the Army in 1988 and is retiring next year, has set himself a charity challenge to mark the end of one career and the start of a new one as a freelance fitness trainer.
He is travelling around England and in an attempt to reach the highest point in every county in the fastest possible time.
He said: “The beautiful Malvern Hills is where I carried out most of my pre- Army training and I have fond memories of cross-country school runs around the North Hill.”
“The Beacon is the highest point in Worcestershire, and I hope to reach Malvern on May 26 with a well-deserved overnight stay at my parents. At this stage, I will have already conquered at least 15 counties.”
He is doing the challenge raise money for the British Limbless Ex Servicemen’s Association (BLESMA).
He said: “It’s easy to take our own health and fitness for granted, but seeing soldiers injured during my time in the forces while they were trying to provide better lives for others is very humbling. Their injuries really are life-changing.”
