IT was interesting to see that the 70th Anniversary of radar coming to Malvern is being marked by a cycle ride. (Malvern Gazette, May 18).

My late father, Ron Taylor, was one of the original team who moved from Christchurch to Malvern in 1942.

He always felt that the significance of the radar team was not really acknowledged in Second World War memorials and I am sure he would have been pleased and gratified that this anniversary is being celebrated by a fund-raising event.

I have letters concerning my father’s employment at that time including personal letters relating to difficulties of finding accommodation in Malvern.

My parents married in 1941 in Christchurch, although my mother was a teacher at Ledbury Grammar School.

They eventually found a flat in Hanley Terrace but I believe life was difficult with all the travelling my father had to do, and a young baby (my sister) born in 1943.

It is clear from these letters that my father was not impressed by the efforts of the town council to help with accommodation.

After the war my father continued to work for T.R.E. until 1951 with three years at the Blind Landing Unit in Martlesham, then joined Sir Robert Watson-Watt and partners in London.

I would very much like to visit the exhibition in Malvern College. I have a photograph of a dinner which I believe may have been taken there in 1942-43 and would like to check this.
