I WAS very impressed with the letter from Simon Vaughan Spencer last week, concerning the reinstatement of the Beacon Café.
I remember back in the 60s and 70s climbing the hill to get to the café at the top and hundreds of like-minded people did the same.
The café did a roaring trade and Mr Green, who ran it for many years, always made a profit. I can honestly say that the Beacon Café was the best thing about the Malvern Hills and I could never understand why it was never rebuilt.
The miserable individual who set light to it nall those years ago should be thoroughly ashamed of himself for depriving hill walkers of their mug of tea and a bacon butty at the end of a hard day’s hiking.
I would gladly chip in a thousand pounds to help with the reconstruction of the café and I'm certain that many others would follow suit.
Come on, let’s get it built and get the hills making money again.
