THE most outstanding young musicians from across Worcestershire have played to an audience of dignitaries.
The 12 musicians played in the Worcestershire Young Musicians’ Showcase at Huntingdon Hall in Worcester.
Among them were Zara Edwards, aged 18, and Catherine Okey, aged 17, both of Malvern St James, Malvern.
Other students were from Worcester, Evesham, Pinvin, near Pershore, Redditch and Kidderminster.
They played a mix of instruments including piano, violin, clarinet and flute.
The youngsters were chosen after auditions of 21 young musicians at the Elgar Centre in Broadheath, near Worcester, in March.
The concert is an annual event which allows young musicians from Worcestershire to perform in front of an audience. Unusually, more than half the finalists were juniors aged 13 and under.
Gill Lumsdon, principal of the Elgar school of music, said: “It was a privilege to listen to such talented children play and a pleasure to be involved.
“It was difficult for the panel who ran the auditions to choose.
It’s encouraging that there were so many youngsters from across the county too.”
The Showcase was organised by the Elgar School of Music in association with Worcestershire Arts and Music. In the audience were Ed Moore, chairman of Worcestershire County Council, Tony Miller, chairman of Wychavon District Council and mayors and deputy mayors from across the county.
