THE Mayor of Malvern, Coun Ian Hopwood, was re-elected to the post at Malvern Town Council’s annual meeting.
Councillor Hopwood faced a challenge from Coun Pat Mewton, but in a secret ballot, held on to the post by 11 votes to eight.
Deputy mayor Coun John Jordan was also re-elected, beating off Coun Mike Charles 13 votes to six.
Both men thanked fellow councillors for the show of confidence in re-electing them.
At the same meeting, members overwhelmingly supported a motion proposed by Coun Mewton rescinding the standing order that restricts council meetings to two hours’ duration.
