BELLE Vue Terrace in the centre of Malvern will be closed to traffic when it becomes the venue for a party to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.
The closure, thought to be the first ever for a party, will allow traders to host a Great British Tea Party on Bank Holiday Monday, June 4.
The event, described as a 1950s-style street party, will feature afternoon teas, live music, games and entertainment for all the family.
Running from noon to 4pm, it is open to all.
Most of the businesses along the terrace will be open, and there will also be a mini-farmers’ market and stalls selling food, vintage clothing, flags and bunting.
Organisers describe the closure of the terrace as “a fantastic opportunity to experience the town from a new perspective”.
It also gives the town a chance to try out some of the recommendations n the town’s bid to become a Mary Portas Pilot town, including creating usable social space and putting on cultural events to attract visitors.
Chris Marks, of Iapetus gallery, said “The traders are really excited about putting on this street party to celebrate the jubilee.
“The terrace is a grand, large, and most importantly flat space, something of a rarity in Great Malvern, so with the road closure we can put on an event not seen in the town before.
“The party will be a great deal of fun for all and as traders we look forward to welcoming both new and familiar faces. We are also delighted to be working with Malvern Town Council to make this a really special day.” The road closure is one of eight approved by Malvern Hills District Council for jubilee street parties.
The other are at Somers Park Primary School, the Dingle in West Malvern, Castlemorton, Great Witley, Suckley, Earls Croome and Clifton-upon-Teme.
