A LOCAL mum’s drive to raise funds and awareness for people suffering with blood conditions received a big boost as a fun day in Upton raised more than £1,500.

Ruby Edwards founded Funny Blood after her son Noah, now four, was diagnosed with the rare platelet function disorder, which makes him prone to extreme bruising and bleeding.

She is currently trying to raise the £5,000 needed to turn Funny Blood into an official charity or charitable trust, and said the success of the event at Clive’s Fruit Farm would go a long way towards achieving that goal.

“It was an enjoyable day and we had a good amount of people considering the rain and the flooding of the previous week,” she said.

Ms Edwards said she was now planning lots more fund-raising events, including a ‘wear blue for Funny Blood’ day involving local schools.
