CHILDREN, parents and teachers of St James Primary School are producing a school cookbook. The recipes will be professionally printed and bound, and all profits from its sale will go towards PTA funds.

West Malvern residents are invited to contribute.

Recipes for cakes, main dishes, puddings, soups, bread (absolutely anything at all, as long as it is your own or your family’s recipe and not copied from a published source) should be sent to cookbook.stjames @gmail.com or drop them off at the school office.

Please include your name and contact details, and any personal information you have about the recipe (how it was invented, who gave it to you, what your family likes about it, etc).

More information is available from Clare Gilliam (cookbook co-ordinator) on 01684 561124.

Last week I touched briefly on the subject of the Diamond Jubilee celebrations in the village – if you haven’t seen the flyer listing all the events taking place on Monday, June 4, between 2pm and 5pm here is a brief resume.

Starting at the village hall, where the WI are providing tea and cakes, there will be a photographic and memorabilia display from the 1950s as well as the children’s art exhibition.

Then at the Regents Village Shop children can have their faces painted while parents can listen to live music.

Moving on to St James’s Primary School, which is one of the main venues, there will be two treasure hunts (one for children and another for adults), 1950s games, a 1950s fancy dress competition and a tugof- war. Crossing the road to the Church there will be flower displays and an exhibition of West Malvern’s literary heritage.

During the afternoon wandering bands of musicians and singers will be seen up and down the village, and if you feel like a walk and a look around there should be plenty of decorated garden and front doors to see – all to the Jubilee theme, and giving us all the opportunity to get involved!

Finally, in the evening a pig roast and live music are planned at the Brewers Arms, and then of course, much later on, the bonfire at the Beacon. All this will take a lot of organisation, so if you are able to help in any way please contact David Sharp on 01684 573213 or mrdasharp@btinternet.com.

There are also celebrations at the British Legion Club on Saturday, June 2. Jazz bands are the main attraction; ideal music for dancing on the new floor. There will also be a barbecue, strawberries and cream, stalls games etc – all going on from 2pm to midnight.
