A FINE day with blue skies following a weekend of rain dawned for Powick Ramblers’ walk last Monday.
The four-mile walk began at the New Inn, Storridge, and followed tracks past Norbury’s apple and cherry orchards and barn conversions to reach Old Storridge Common. The footpath followed part of the Worcestershire Way along the ridge to Sandlin. Twenty-three people and two dogs enjoyed the walk led by Garth and he was thanked on returning to the New Inn, where lunch was taken.
The next walk is on Thursday, May 17, meeting at the free car park at Malvern Link on the corner of Victoria Park and Pickersleigh Avenue at 10am for a four-mile town and common walk. Cheryl (01905 428152) will lead the walk to Great Malvern and Priory Park, pointing out items of interest along the way.
Last Saturday the bells of St Peter’s church in Powick rang a quarter peal to mark the wedding of Bob and Anna Hill, who are members of the bell ringers. They were married by the Reverend Sue Irwin.
Last Sunday there were baptisms at the morning service conducted by Ms Irwin. It was a truly family occasion as the children were brother and sister Oliver Cameron and Harriet Anne Duffy, and their cousin Freya Daisy Hilditch.
The families live in St Peter’s, Worcester, and grandparents Sam and Jackie Hitchens live in Colletts Green. Both Samantha and Joanne, their daughters, were married in Powick Church.
Christian Aid Week is upon us again. From May 13 to 19 volunteers will be carrying out a door-to-door collection to raise funds to help people in poverty out of poverty by providing them the means and tools to help themselves.
Christian Aid works with 507 partner organisations in 47 countries across the world. For more details on how to volunteer, ring Frances Betts on 01905 830816.
A coffee morning with bring-andbuy, cakes, preserves and plants will be held in support of Christian Aid at Frances and Philip Betts’ house at Abbey View, 33b Upton Road, Callow End, on Saturday, May 19, from 10am to noon.
The annual parish meeting to hear reports of the year’s activities of various village organisations will be held in Powick Parish Hall on Thursday, May 17, at 7.30pm. Organisations wishing to submit a report are welcome to do so and should contact parish clerk Michelle Alexander, and any villager is welcome to attend.
