I AM writing to congratulate Malvern’s town crier in her new post.
I think it is a brilliant idea by the council and I look forward to hearing her perform in town.
I would like to suggest that the council considers commissioning sculptures/statues connected to C S Lewis’s Narnia and Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings in the town. Both authors used to walk the hills and it would be a tourist gem to have statues celebrating this in a location such as Priory Park or Rose Bank gardens.
Furthermore, if someone researched the places Lewis and Tolkien used to visit, then a tourist trail could be designed. This could really capture the imagination of visiting tourists throughout the seasons.
Equally, the town would also really benefit if we staged a Malvern equivalent of Ledbury Poetry Festival. As a humble poet and resident of Malvern the last four decades, I think celebrating all of the aforementioned things could generate more tourist interest and subsequently attract more trade to the local shops and businesses.
Well done Malvern Council! I am thrilled that we have a town crier as I am a big fan of such traditions.
