A MALVERN sculptor who transforms junk found at the roadside into works of art will be exhibiting some of his creations at this year’s Malvern Spring Garden Show.

Jacob Rock, who uses only recycled materials in his eyecatching animal and beast sculptures, plans to have a “menagerie” of his creations on display during the event at the Three Counties Showground from Thursday to Sunday, May 10-13.

Mr Rock, of Bank Street, said: “These beasts are a disorderly accumulation of litter and discarded, unwanted or worthless material to suggest an instinctive side of us, a view to our primeval imagination.”

His designs will feature as part of the Creative Hand show garden produced by Colwall-based Caves Folly Nursery. Other highlights of the annual springtime spectacular will include a Plants and People Theatre, which will host question and answer sessions and talks featuring some of the UK’s leading experts, including Carol Klein, Chris Beardshaw and Joe Swift, and a Painting with Plants gallery.

This feature is aimed at encouraging amateur gardeners to try their hand at putting on a display and groups taking part will produce a plant display based on their favourite piece of art. The top three gallery pieces as voted by show visitors will win £1,000 towards a cause of their choice.

More than 100 nurseries from these shores and abroad will make colourful contributions to the 1.7 acre Royal Horticultural Society Floral Marquee and there will be shopping opportunities galore with hundreds of stands and stalls in the Country Living Pavilion and art and food markets.
