I AGREE entirely with G Bishop (Letters, April 27) concerning the amount of public money that is wasted restoring largely unused pavements.
I suspect, however, that it is yet another unwanted consequence of the ‘health and safety’, litigious culture we now must endure.
Cost incurred due to a road accident are borne by the insurance companies involved.
Should someone trip and fall on a pavement that is in poor conditi on then the buck stops with the local authority.
Shock, horror – best we fix the pavements.
