ONCE again we have a letter within your pages condemning Malvern Town Football Club, this time from a Monmouth resident, no less.
Daniel Goodwin tells us the club is being ‘poorly run’, with those in charge being likened to a ‘chocolate kettle’, so very droll and amusing sir.
Even more distasteful is his reference to the ‘arsonist chef’. The person in question was purely a member, as am I, who volunteered a couple of hours on a match day to make a coffee or two.
As an aside, I hail from Yorkshire, and was a member of a working men’s club which had as a member a certain Peter Sutcliffe (the so-called Yorkshire Ripper) at one time.
Fortunately, people didn’t write letters to the local paper bringing that to everyone’s attention after his expulsion.
One wonders if Mr Goodwin is merely being mischievous or just misinformed. Is Mr Goodwin unaware of the great strides taken within the local community by MTFC?
For instance the availability of a Citizens Advice Centre held weekly in the club? Or the children’s activities held there on a regular basis? Perhaps the annual extravaganza of local youth teams held over two weekends which is hugely popular?
Or even, perhaps, the very successful ladies’ and youth teams who play from there? There are some very hardworking staff within MTFC, Mr Goodwin, and the people who run the club are striving valiantly to keep the place going, make no mistake.
