A LEADING school is looking to expand its horizons after unveiling plans to launch a new international venture in China.
Hoping to offer a British education to pupils with an eye on UK universities, Malvern College will be launching its first international school at Qingdao, in China’s Shandong Province, in September.
Malvern College Qingdao is thought to be the first purposebuilt international secondary school for Chinese nationals that is backed by an independent UK school and licensed by the Chinese education authorities.
Pupils aged 16 and over will follow a two-year A-level programme as full boarders following a foundation year, with a view to going on to further education in the UK and USA.
Antony Clark, headmaster of Malvern College, said: “We know a high percentage of Chinese parents want to send their children to universities in the US and the UK as a means of enhancing their longer-term career opportunities.
“In opening Malvern College Qingdao, we will be bringing an outstanding British education that will not only prepare Chinese pupils for life at top British universities, but will also be developing in them the holistic values and traditions of a leading British independent school.”
Subjects offered at the purposebuilt campus will include maths, further maths, physics, chemistry, biology and economics, with an additional programme focusing on developing English literacy and language skills.
