STUDENTS studying bricklaying at a college in Malvern have been helping to rebuild a Worcestershire railway station.
The seven teenagers aged between 16 and 19 from Worcester Technology College’s Malvern Construction Centre have been visiting the station in Broadway weekly and pitching in with the building work for free.
The Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway Broadway Area Group, who are rebuilding the station, have praised the students enthusiasm.
Bill Britton, who is part of the GWR Broadway Area Group of Volunteers rebuilding the station, said: “They have proved to be very enthusiastic and dedicated.
We have been really pleased with them.”
The station rebuild is totally self funded but with support from local organisations is steaming ahead and is estimated to be completed between 2015 and 2020.
Rob Smith, Malvern Construction centre manager, said helping out on the project has been great experience for the level two construction diploma in bricklaying.
He added: “The GWR have been over the moon with the students.
“The aim is to improve the young people’s employability skills.
“We are hoping to be involved until the end of the project and at a later stage in the rebuild we hope we can spread out into other trades like carpentry and painting.
